The Science Backed Art of Goal Setting

For Team Confidence

Virtual-Workshop.png

Quite by accident, I wrote a workshop and then thought “why didn’t I think of this before?” A friend asked me in my capacity as a therapist if I could help him with his memory. With my background in neuroscience and counselling I knew talking therapy wasn’t going to cut the mustard. Instead, I refreshed my memory of the subject, researched updated methods, and before I knew it, I had created a workshop. I loved every minute of the research, teaching and seeing how much an hour had changed my friend’s approach to, not only learning and memory, but also life in general. There was no hesitation, I had to do more.

Teaching came naturally as I have taught at universities for many years (on and off since 2001). What I noticed from providing this workshop was it had combined my knowledge, skills and my enthusiasm for learning. I chose goal pursuit for my first course of workshops because I have seen so many dreams not coming to fruition, largely owing to a lack of understanding of how our brain works. Much of what we think is helping us is in fact doing the opposite. And so the frustration, stress, embarrassment ensues. We don’t know why we failed, so we blame our self.

The good news is there has been so much research in this field. I have collated the data to produce a five week 1 hour workshop course outlining a step by step guide incorporating science backed tools from beginning to end, and beyond. In my experience, when someone understands what is happening and why, they are much more likely to follow the approach rather than follow a list of dos and don’ts.

Achieving goals is the first course of workshops; given the success, I will be writing more. The next one planned is mental health; how to maintain and improve. This is another topic that effects everyone with dire consequences if neglected. Look out for more details coming soon.
